Peace is based on respect, and I believe that people want to live a proper life and be respected. It is really the backbone that needs to be developed into becoming a world citizen. Although respect and appreciation of people are universal values, not everyone can live up to this standard. The very notion of respect is derived from self-respect, and self-respect needs to block respect from others. Self-awareness and a feeling of self-worth form a basis for respect in interpersonal relations.

With so many traditions, cultures, languages, and religions, Indonesia is such a dynamic entity that it underlines the fact that tolerance is associated with national unity. That is to say that diversity in this country means nothing if people will not learn to live together peacefully. Still, against the given wide-spectrum type of feel-good background, instances of negativity do occur. If those issues are not addressed, they all turn out to be potentially threatening to the tight unity enjoyed by Indonesia throughout history because this unity is based in the main on tolerance and brotherhood. Proactive measures are therefore needed to protect and secure this unity.

The most innovative ideas regarding the reinstatement of tolerance in Indonesia are cooperation with the peace organizations and proactive spreading of the good stories of peace in all parts of the country. The Indonesians have mobilized themselves throughout history and put aside the racial, cultural, and religious barriers that set them apart from each other in mutual acceptance and respect for the freedom struggle. It is because of this that shared history can become a beacon of hope—that bigotry will be defeated by the fact that Indonesians will be taught about the importance of diversity and tolerance.

I invite you all to spread the message of peace in cyberspace, be orderly in acting, and speak out for a peaceful, tolerant Indonesia. I dream that all the children of this nation can join hands to eradicate intolerance and preserve prosperity for the creation of a peaceful Indonesia.

Being a responsible digital citizen entails a great deal more than refraining from making offensive comments. It means keeping in control in case of a conflict and constructively contributing to the online exchange to counter hate speech. We contribute to building a world of greater inclusiveness and empathy by guiding global peace and mediating disputes that build conflict in the ether.

Tolerance nurtures virtue and harmony; thus, people can live together peacefully though they have very diverse political perspectives, religious beliefs, or cultural backgrounds. Sharing videos and messages that touch the heart and spread peace on the internet, or starting blogs to spread harmony—are other great ways we can make a difference towards a better tomorrow for the coming generations.

I have dedicated my work to this message, and through it, I envision a future whereby mutual respect can eventually bring about a peaceful coexistence of all. It is by sharing a common vision and striving toward a world where mutual understanding and respect prevail, making life brighter together for all. It is with these values at the core that we are able to build a foundation for a global community that is much more harmonious and resilient.Top of Form
